The Department of Environment and Mineral Resources is looking for a postdoc researcher in relation to a project on geochemistry in connection with mineral resource activities.
The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources generally advises the Government of Greenland on issues related to living resources and natural conditions.
The tasks in the department consist of advice and monitoring on the protection of the environment and nature through mineral resource activities, monitoring of the terrestrial environment under climate change, and work with data on the seabed, nature and environment in Greenland. In addition, a number of associated projects are involving.

TasksYour focus will be on the study of geochemical processes in the covering of mining waste and tailings. The employment will be in connection with a new project called
RestoMine -
Sustainable cover material supply.
You are expected to participate in:
- Collaboration with the project's participants in the Nordic region.
- Identification and evaluation of materials for covering mining waste and tailings.
- Fieldwork near Nuuk.
- Laboratory analysis of materials and environmental effects.
- Preparation of products for the project:
- Reports for analysis and fieldwork
- Catalog of materials
- Research papers and presentations
- Contribute to the department's knowledge development based on your work
The department's employees are part of several different international working groups, and you will collaborate with researchers from Greenland, Denmark and other countries.
RequirementsWe are looking for an employee with a higher academic education (Ph.D.) with a natural science background, e.g. biologist, environmental engineer, geologist or relevant subjects related to environmental advisory. The applicant must have knowledge of one or more of the department's areas of work.
Knowledge of the Greenlandic language and society is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
Starting date 1 September 2025 or soon thereafter. The position is limited in time until 31 December 2026 with the possibility of a shorter extension.
The working hours are 40 hours weekly.
Salary and Employment Conditions Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel to and from the place of employment and relocation of household goods, are in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of employment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
Housing No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment with the Government, the right to the assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of employment.
