Researcher/Senior Researcher in Benthic Ecology at the Greenland Climate Research Center at the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources
The Greenland Climate Research Centre (GCRC) at the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources (GINR) invites applications for a position as researcher/senior researcher within the field of marine benthic ecology.

The GCRC is responsible for several long-term programmes monitoring physical and biological parameters in fjords and marine areas in Greenland. GCRC develops and offers educational programmes and provides research-based advice to the Greenlandic and Danish authorities.

The candidate will be responsible for leading the GCRC’s nationwide offshore monitoring of benthic organisms and will contribute to the development of research projects within benthic ecology in Greenlandic waters. The candidate will collaborate with and join an international group of researchers conducting extensive research in marine ecology and oceanography, with the aim of understanding the natural variability of marine ecosystems and their responses to changes.

The position offers broad opportunities to contribute to a research field that is becoming increasingly important from a national management perspective, alongside growing awareness of the sustainable use of marine resources in Greenland. The position provides access to a wide range of facilities, including the Institute’s research vessels (RV Sanna and RV Tarajoq) and an extensive benthic dataset that is continuously expanded.

Areas of responsibility
The candidate will be expected to:
  • lead the GINR’s benthic monitoring programme (the sampling programme covers areas on the continental shelf and slope in West and East Greenland, 60–73° N)
  • analyse and report field data and provide research-based advice to the local authorities
  • communicate research results
  • actively contribute to the development of the GCRC’s internal and external collaborations
  • produce scientific articles at an international level
  • participate in research and monitoring cruises
  • participate in international scientific organisations and networks, e.g. the Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Programme (CBMP/CAFF)
Educational qualifications
The selected candidate preferably holds a PhD in marine biology or ecology. Newly graduated researchers are also encouraged to apply for the position.
In the assessment, particular emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s:
  • experience with monitoring programmes
  • research potential and vision within the field
  • scientific output at an international level
  • ability to attract funding to the research field
  • ability to contribute to the development of the GCRC’s internal and external collaborations
